How much do electrical certificates cost?
Issued with the job, a certificate is normally included in the price. Obtained separately it means an inspection first, and that is £90 to £250 depending on how much of the installation has to be tested.

Ask the original electrician for a duplicate before paying anybody to reconstruct the paperwork. Schemes require records to be kept, and a business that is still trading can often reissue in a day for nothing.
What moves the price
- Whether the certificate accompanies work being done or has to follow an inspection of work already finished.
- How much of the installation is in scope. One circuit is quick; a whole house is a condition report.
- Whether the original electrician can be reached for a duplicate, which costs nothing and settles it.
- Notification, where the work was notifiable and the scheme fee applies.
- Regularisation through building control, which carries their fee and their timetable rather than an electrician's.
- Travel and access, which on a single document visit is most of the cost.
Worth knowing
Registration comes in two parts and a business can hold one without the other. Installation registration covers doing the work; inspection registration covers reporting on it, which is what a landlord's five yearly report needs.

Questions about electrical certificates
What is the difference between an EIC and a minor works certificate?
An Electrical Installation Certificate covers a new installation or a new circuit and has a design section. A minor works certificate covers an alteration to a circuit that already exists and does not.
Do I need a certificate to sell my house?
There is no legal requirement to hold one. In practice a buyer's solicitor asks what paperwork exists for any recent electrical work, and a satisfactory condition report answers it when the original certificates are missing.
