About Energy Design Ltd
Energy Design Ltd is an independent engineering business based in Herne Bay, providing design, consultancy and specialist installation services. The company was established in 2007 and relaunched in Kent in 2020 following five years working on major infrastructure projects in the Middle East. Energy Design designs and installs solar PV and battery storage systems for homes, businesses, marinas and remote locations, engineered around actual energy use with a focus on efficiency and reliability. Commercial electrical systems, power quality analysis, marina electrical infrastructure, data networks and independent engineering consultancy are also offered.
The business covers Kent and the South Coast. Energy Design is personally led by Martin Johnson, a Chartered Engineer with more than 25 years' experience in electrical systems, telecoms infrastructure, renewable energy and technical auditing. His background combines formal engineering knowledge with practical experience in electrical installation and design. Work begins with a discussion of the client's requirements, existing infrastructure and long-term objectives. Services are developed around those needs rather than a predetermined product. Monitoring and data logging are provided as part of system design, giving insight into generation, consumption and battery performance. For commercial projects, power quality analysis verifies loads and phase balancing. Marina work includes electrical audits against BS 7671, safety improvements, fault finding, earthing and bonding advice, and new pontoon electrical design. Off-grid and specialist systems are designed for boats, remote buildings and unique projects. Equipment is selected from established manufacturers such as Victron Energy.
